Veneers Q & A

What are dental veneers?

Veneers mimic the natural appearance of your teeth with a very thin layer of porcelain. Dr. Moskowitz custom-fits each veneer to the individual teeth in your mouth, then bonds the veneers to your existing teeth. Veneers fix flaws such as cracks, gaps, stains, or misshapen teeth. In addition, they help reinforce frail teeth.

Although veneers can be made out of resin composite materials, porcelain is the most stain-resistant material. Porcelain more closely resembles your actual tooth enamel, too.

A skilled dental team member describes your choices and recommends the best type of veneers for your needs. Each veneer is individualized and specific to you, in order to meet the goals you have for your smile.

What is the procedure for getting veneers?

After an initial consultation, during which time you and Dr. Moskowitz discuss the goals you may have for your smile, he prepares your custom-fitted veneer.  Dr. Moskowitz shapes your teeth in preparation for your new veneers. Then, he creates an impression of your teeth — either digitally or using a mold — to create your individualized veneers.

After your veneers are created, they are custom-fitted to each of your teeth. Your teeth are prepared for the bonding process, and Dr. Moskowitz applies a unique adhesive and light beam. This step helps the cement bond firmly to the porcelain.

For many, these steps can be done the same day, using the state-of-the-art CEREC technology. For others, multiple visits may be required to achieve your best results. Dr. Moskowitz discusses with you the best approach to meeting your goals, and he individualizes your treatment plan based on your needs.

What are the advantages of dental veneers?

Veneers are a natural-looking means to correct misshapen, cracked, or crooked teeth. Also, they provide the following benefits:

  • Resistance to stains
  • Little gum irritation
  • Can lighten darker teeth
  • Aesthetically pleasing with minimal dental work
  • Strengthen teeth
  • Cheaper than other dental treatments such as crowns
